Wisdom of Yijing from Zeng Shiqiang

1. The sages never die, they are still alive, we still benefit from their teaching, like Fuxi who created Yijing 7,000 years ago.  This is not religion, this is Yijing.

2. The book with no words: Bagua diagram. Because it has no words, you can attach whatever meaning to it.  It has no words because the universe is without words, only phenomena.

3. The universe is reflected in us, Zhouyi, the zhou means 'all'.

4. Whatever theories we have are from nature, and Yijing reflects nature.

5. Three reasons to learn Yijing:
A. To get things right.  Many things are not right, but we think that they are right, like self-confidence.  In Yijing, there is no self confidence, only self reflection, self discipline, self control and self discuss.

B. Morals
C. Seeking sameness in differences

6. One grows into two, two combine to become one, this is Yin Yang from Taiji. One is two, and two is one. One grows into 2, not one divides into 2.

7. All that is in accordance with nature is right, and wrong are those not in accordance with nature. This doesn't mean reject all man-made things, but need to ensure that they are in line with nature.  For example, a man-made bag that is useful is inline with nature, whereas a leather bag that is not useful other than showing off, is not natural, and thus not right.

8. One yin one yang means there is yin because of yang. Everything has yin and yang elements inside.

9. Yijing is pro business, because yin and yang are always exchanging, and business is about exchange.

10. Positioning is most important, as evidenced by Bagua positioning of the 8 trigrams. Positioning is to do your role, maintain your role and improve on your role.

11. Yin and yang are inseparable, as everything has 2 sides, the good and the bad.  Nothing is absolute.

12. The highest wisdom is to not change in changes. What is not change is the principle.

13. Four functions of Yijing: Xiang, Shu, Li and Zhan 象数理占

14.  Three Ways of Thinking:
A. Follow Others
B. Own Judgment right or wrong

C. No fixed, always changing

15. No good or bad hexagrams

16. Yin is contract, yang is expand. So 9 is strong yang, 6 is strong yin, because 8 is smaller than 6

17. Yang is change, yin is no change. Change and no change are dependent on each other.

18. Four major concepts of Yijing:
A.. Cyclical change, where no change is change

B. When something reaches its extreme, it will inevitably move in the opposite direction to restore balance.

C. Balance with movement

D. Beyond auspicious and non-auspicious.  See beyond superficial judgments of situations, understanding that life's events often have multiple dimensions and that what might initially seem unfortunate can lead to positive outcomes, and vice versa.

E. Best hexagram is No. 15 Humility.  There is no such thing as overly humble.

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...

Kindness as a Way of Life: How Kindness can Reward You 6 Times Over

Kindness as a Way of Life by Andy Ng Kindness is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, enriches human connections, and has the power to transform lives. It goes beyond mere acts of charity or random good deeds. To me, kindness, when practiced as a way of life, becomes a profound philosophy that can shape our interactions with others, the world around us, and even our own well-being. In this article, we will explore the multifaceted aspects of kindness as a way of life, touching on non-violent communication, the limitations of traditional charity, the potential harms of helping, the deliberate cultivation of kindness, and the incredible rewards it brings. 1.       Non-Violent Communication Non-violent communication (NVC) is a key component of practicing kindness as a way of life. Developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, NVC emphasizes empathetic communication that seeks to understand and connect with others on a deeper level. It encourages ...
