Our Own Workings

We are all the workings of our minds. We are the result of our own actions, not the actions created by an external being, spirit, creator or external power. What we are now, and what we are and will experience is due to the law of cause and effect or karma.  In a nutshell, karma means that we reap what we sow. Our life is in our own hands. Anything that happens to us is created and caused by ourselves, and not by external power.  And everything starts with our mind. What we think, we materialize. This is called seed planting or karma.  The law of karma applies to all beings, whether human or not. Dinosaurs fought with each other millions of years ago and they not only killed the earth, they also killed themselves. Based on this understanding, if we humans fight and kill each other, we will end up extinct as the dinosaurs. From the concept that we are responsible for our own actions, we can change to improve our life. For example, if you are not happy with your cur...

You and Your Karma

Mention the word 'Karma' and many would think this has to do with religion or superstition.  Some even equate karma as retribution.  Like Microsoft's CEO said 'it is bad karma for a staff to ask for a salary raise'.   The dictionary defines 'Karma' simply as 'action'.  So when we say 'bad karma', it is simply 'bad action'.  Because every action will have an effect, bad action will lead to bad outcome or effect.  Note that the effect may not be immediate, direct or even obvious .  For example, if you take in dirty food, you may get food poisoning, but it may be delayed, indirect (you get headache instead of stomach ache) or non-obvious (you may think your stomach upset is caused by water and not the food you take). Also other factors are at play, like how strong your body is.  Nevertheless, karma affects everything in life, whether you know it or not is irrelevant.  The 7 elements of karma are: Size : the bigger the action, t...

Treasure Your First Wife While You're Still Alive

There was a King in ancient India who had four wives.  Naturally, he loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with all the riches in life.  He thought that she love him too. The King was also very proud of his 3rd wife and always showed her off to neighbouring kingdoms. The King's 2nd wife was his confidant.  She was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times. As for the King's 1st wife, she was his loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom.  However, the King did not love the first wife, that's why he married 3 other wives.   In fact he hardly took notice of her! One day, the King fell ill and he knew that he was going to die. He thought of his 3 wives (except the 1st wife) and wish that they will follow him so that he can continue to enjoy life with them in the other world.  So h...

The Real Law of Cause and Effect

Among all natural laws (i.e. not man-made laws but laws governing all nature), the Law of Action and Reaction is the most prevalent. This is also called the law of Cause and Effect, or Karma to some people. Simply put, for every action, there will be a reaction. That's why good beget good and bad beget bad.  But the point to note that there is no direct relationship between cause and effect , i.e. you cannot pinpoint a particular action and say for sure that it will precisely lead to another action.  Also, results do not arise in the order in which their causative actions have taken place . What this means is that other causative factors also come into play and often it is their combined effect that determines the result . A single cause cannot produce a result, much less many results, nor can many causes produce just one result. How does it apply to training then?  From my over 17 year of training (including part-time 1996-2001 before becoming full time since May...
