The Highest Pay in the World

Ask anyone why they queued up for 10 hours under the hot sun just to catch a 10 seconds glimpse of the late Lee Kuan Yew when his body lied in state at Parliament House 2 weeks ago, they will say, "Because we like him" Ask your staff why they are so hard working posting pictures on Facebook when they don't get paid for that, they will say, "Because people click 'like'" Ask employees why they stay in the company for so long despite better opportunities elsewhere, they will say, "Because we like the environment here". Indeed the most important element in people management and leadership is 'Like" and not "Pay". When people like you, they will do whatever you say, even though what you said may not be what they like. When they like you, there is question of loyalty: because they will stick with you forever. When they like you, pay is less important. Because the managers not just pay people money but p...

How to Make People Like You in a Instant

We all have this experience: there is dispute between us and another person.  If we insist that we are right, they will start to dislike us.  Soon there will be quarrels and exchange of bad feelings. We also know that it is hard to find agreement or consensus immediately. If we let such bad feelings linger on, relationships will be affected. Whether we disagree with people, or they have complaints about us, if we want to diffuse tension and move people towards us, we must make them like us immediately. And if your tonality is warm, they will like you instantly.  Like this morning, I received a complaint call from a person that received our email blasts.  She was angry but I told her that it must be a computer error, for our computer...

Why 'Like' is No Good and Other Most Ignored Commonsense

Commonsense tells us that there is no fire without wind, and everything happens due to causes and conditions. Yet many still believe in lottery and think that they can break laws as long as they are not caught.  What we teach in our training are all commonsense, yet they are not common practice.  The following are 5 Most Ignored Commonsense: 1. Multiple causes vs Single Cause   It is A, B, C, D, E that leads to F, G, H, I J, and not A leads to B. You cannot just advertise and expect business, your people must also know how to close sales or there will be no business. Of course your product must be right to begin with. 2. Better than Late Than Never is Stupid!  But the moment you say 'Later', you are closer to never. It's better to 'Just Do It' as what Nike said than to wait for conditions to be perfect. 3.  Time Simply Has No Value It's not time that has value, but what you do to time that has value.  How often we hear 'time i...
