How to Avoid The Traps of Happiness

Are you happy now?  As a full-time Coach and Trainer since 2001, I have come across many people who are not happy because they told me that they are not getting anywhere in their career and life. On the other hand, I too met a few businesspeople who earn more than a million dollars a year complaining to me that they envy other people’s happiness. Jack Ma, one of the richest Chinese in the world that founded and owned Alibaba, revealed in public videos that he is pretty unhappy now and was the happiest when he was struggling in building up his business. So it seems that wealthy people are just as unhappy as people without money. This may come as a comfort for poor people, but it nevertheless stop them  from becoming rich. This is because if happiness is our reason to be rich, if you now know that being rich does not bring you happiness, why would you want to be rich?  That’s why I think it is of utmost importance that people do not get any idea that happiness has go...

Mind Your Mind

When we say 'mind', we don't just mean the mind in our brain or head. The mind is everywhere, with every atom. Wherever we feel anything, the mind is there. The mind feels. Where does the mind resides?  Our whole body contains the mind.  We need to mind our mind. By this I mean we need to take care of our mind, as though our mind is our physical possession, like how we take care of our looks. There are 4 major ways to mind our mind: 1. Feed our mind with good food The mind feeds on foods of thoughts, emotions and feelings. Feed your mind with good food and your mind will be healthy and strong. If you feed it with junk, your mind will become junky.  2. Calm our mind regularly  We are often so busy that our mind is never at rest, at peace of in a state of calm. To calm our mind, we just need to stop thinking and just take 3 deep breadths, with our mind fully focused on our breathing and nothing else. If you do this mindfulness practise regularly, you will f...

Stress to Success

Mention the word stress and people get stressed out. I cannot stress enough that stress is something that we need to deal with, whether you like it or not.  If you can handle your stress well, you can turn your stress into success. Sounds interesting? What is stress then?  Stress is defined as our body (physical) and our mind (psychological) responses to things that we don't handle well. Like if you forget where you drop your handphone, that is definitely a very stressful experience. The symptoms of stress are worries, tense, bad temper, short breadth, faster heartbeat, and in many cases, lower body immunity to illness. In short, stress is how our we humans react to changes in lives that we don't feel comfortable with. Note that if you do not react to stress, you do not have stress . If you respond to stress positively, you will have success. That's what this article is about. What causes stress?  There are 3 major causes of stress: Time Money People 1. Tim...

Be Mindful not Mind full

Mindfulness is often thought of the same as meditation, when in fact it is more than that.  Perhaps it is easier to understand mindfulness from the opposite, i.e. when do we consider someone as mindless?  When he does things without thinking, or when he does things with so much 'auto-pilot' that he becomes robotic and apply the same approach to different situations.  Like many salespeople assume customers like details and would go into details without considering the client's needs.  Mindlessness can also be found in salespeople that are ill prepared and incompetent, and yet try to pretend that they know.   Simply put, mindfulness has 3 elements: you need to first  take note  of something,  be aware  of it, and  remember that awareness .  So for example if I am being mindful in a sales meeting, it means that I have to take note of my client's objections, be aware that it is an objection and remember that awareness.  Note that...

Are you being mindful or being mind full?

Being mindful is to be aware of what is around, and be alert to things happening and absorb whatever good the environment is. Being mindful is also about to take the right response to what is happening.  If there is pollution, a mindful person would be aware of it, and choose a right response, and do not react to it. This is because reacting is futile as you cannot change what has happened and your reaction (like getting angry) would only make yourself more unhappy.  A mindful person would respond appropriately, like wear masks.  The opposite of being mindful is to have your mind full. When your mind is full, you cannot take in any new material anymore. That's why people with minds full will find the training "not useful".  In fact it is their mind fullness that is causing the blockage. We need to turn ourselves from being mind full to being mindful if we want to be effective in learning. How to be mindful during and after training? First thing is to pay att...

5 Quick Steps to Mindfulness

Mindfulness provides a simple yet powerful way for us to get ourselves unstuck, so that we can get in touch with our own wisdom and vitality.  In a simple sense, mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment with no judgement . It is living in the here and now with a sense of wakefulness. When you are mindful, your mind becomes highly relaxed and alert at the same time .  Three wonderful qualities of your mind will naturally emerge: calmness, clarity and happiness.  Three aspects of mindfulness: awareness, attention and remembering Awareness: This is where you are conscious of your experiences, like I am now aware of my own breathing Attention : This is focused awareness, where you focus you awareness, so called 'pay attention' (eg to my breathing) Remembering : This is remembering to pay attention to your experience from moment to moment, like counting my breathing. Ultimately the goal of mindfulness is to develop the capacity to be fully present...

Start Your Day Right with These 7 Secrets

Now you too can start your day right with the following 7 mindful thoughts: 1.  Take Out Filler Words in Your Daily Conversation.   Filler words and phrases are sounds that have no meaning, they are there to fill in spaces while we are thinking.   The most common fillers are 'so', 'well', 'like', 'you know', 'how come' and 'sort of'.  Filler words reflect a unclear mind that just wants so speak.  Imagine a conversion full of filler words, what a mindless conversation it is! 2.  When Eating, Just Eat .   Many people like to gobble their food, and the more they like a food, the faster they eat it.  Many people are afraid that if they don't fast, that good food may be gone.   The point is until you adopt mindful eating, you are not absorbing the full benefits of the food you're eating and you're just wasting food!  In Japan, it is very rude to eat and talk at the same time, and munching a food while listening to a le...

Mindful Compliments

Exercise for you: once a day, look out for someone close to you - can be a family member, colleague, boss, Facebook friends, relatives or just friends - and give them a Mindful Compliment. Most people give compliments that are neither mindful nor meaningful.  Many are just flatteries, some are even sarcasms disguised as compliments.  Others compliment just for the sake of it, with no intention or mindfulness behind. Many people commented that when they give out compliments, the receiving person often block it."Oh, I am not perfect", or "Not really", "Today I am not in top form" or even start analysing the compliment and give their comment or rebuttal of it. In fact, being given a compliment creates vulnerability.  Some people may become wary of compliments at work, for the compliment from the boss often follows some kind of extra work and stress.  In adolescence, people often get compliments and later were stalked or teased.  Many people are not su...
