Start Your Day Right with These 7 Secrets

Now you too can start your day right with the following 7 mindful thoughts:

1.  Take Out Filler Words in Your Daily Conversation.

Filler words and phrases are sounds that have no meaning, they are there to fill in spaces while we are thinking.

The most common fillers are 'so', 'well', 'like', 'you know', 'how come' and 'sort of'.  Filler words reflect a unclear mind that just wants so speak.  Imagine a conversion full of filler words, what a mindless conversation it is!

2.  When Eating, Just Eat.

Many people like to gobble their food, and the more they like a food, the faster they eat it.  Many people are afraid that if they don't fast, that good food may be gone.

The point is until you adopt mindful eating, you are not absorbing the full benefits of the food you're eating and you're just wasting food!  In Japan, it is very rude to eat and talk at the same time, and munching a food while listening to a lecture or walking is also considered barbaric.  So take one bite at a time and enjoy your food to the fullest!

3.  Give out True Compliments - refer to the previous blog on this at here

4.  Secret Acts of Virtue.

Do something good for others, like charity or service, but don't let them know.  All religions practise generosity, but we are more than religions.

Generosity is innate, we don't need to learn this.  Babies just give out smiles without expecting anything in return.

The Buddha said: Generosity is the highest virtue, and anonymous giving is the highest form of giving.

5.  Notice Dislike

Aversion or dislike, along with greed and ignorance, are the three common weaknesses of humans.  Whenever we dislike something, we push away, yet the more you push it away, the more it comes back to you.  It is like trying to push a ball down in a swimming pool.

Most of us have thousands of aversions in a single day, and such aversions are giving us unnecessary stress and suffering.

Aversion is also the hidden source of anger and aggression.  It arises from the mistaken notion that if we could just manage to get rid of something or someone, then we would be happy.  That something to get rid of could be as trivial as a queue or as large as a terrorist group.

There are other ideas of aversion like "If I could arrange things - and people - to be just as I want them, then I would be happy."  This is absurd because people and things are changing all the time, how can we ever arrange them in perfect order?  Also, our "perfect" is not perfect to others.

So get rid of aversion and your life would be happier instantly. Instead of pushing it away, embrace it and see how you can best adapt to it, ignore it or make the dislike become your like instead!

6.  Like When You Dislike.

Appreciate everything and like them instead of disliking them.

In this very moment, what can you like or appreciate?  This practise helps us to cultivate joy, which is more than just appreciating what makes us feel good but includes the happiness we feel in connection with other people's joy and good fortune.  We normally feel joyous at our family members' success, but when someone we dislike is successful, we feel jealous and envious instead of joy.  Such negative mind makes us want to focus on the negative aspects of people that we don't like.

The result is that we are hurting ourselves, because our jealousy and envy only make us want to push away other peoples' successes, and in turn also deny our own successes.

So the next time you see something good happening to a stranger or someone you don't like, feel joyous too.  It is the start of your own riches

7. Smile to Yourself.

Do an inner soft smile like what The Buddha does all the time (you can see a typical Buddha's statue below).

If you check the mirror a few times a day, you'll be surprised to find that all the time you are actually frowning and not smiling.  We have no hesitation to smile to others at work, but how often do we smile to ourselves?

Smiling is natural, as all babies smile without being taught or forced by anyone.  Smiling expresses your happiness to the outside.  When others are happy, you'll be even more happy.  Fortune will come your way.

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot

Kindness as a Way of Life: How Kindness can Reward You 6 Times Over

Kindness as a Way of Life by Andy Ng Kindness is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, enriches human connections, and has the power to transform lives. It goes beyond mere acts of charity or random good deeds. To me, kindness, when practiced as a way of life, becomes a profound philosophy that can shape our interactions with others, the world around us, and even our own well-being. In this article, we will explore the multifaceted aspects of kindness as a way of life, touching on non-violent communication, the limitations of traditional charity, the potential harms of helping, the deliberate cultivation of kindness, and the incredible rewards it brings. 1.       Non-Violent Communication Non-violent communication (NVC) is a key component of practicing kindness as a way of life. Developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, NVC emphasizes empathetic communication that seeks to understand and connect with others on a deeper level. It encourages active listening, empath

New Age Mobile Numerology

Many people look at 'mobile number change luck' with skepticism, they say, how can just one simple mobile number change create so many changes in a person's life?   Also, the mobile numbers are given to us by random by the telcos, how can our fate be assigned by the telcos at random? Besides, isn't it true that our lives and fates are determined by birth and what we do, how can a small mobile number, which is a modern invention, have any effect?  How about people in the past without mobile numbers?  You mean they don't have a life without mobile numbers, right? One more thing: you cannot just change your mobile number and expect your life to change. If this is so, wouldn't everybody be rich just by changing their mobile numbers? Finally, isn't this kind of fortune-telling thing more of psychology and blind faith than science?   If so, how can we trust anything that is not proven and not science? Today let's resolve all these doubts and I welcome your co
