Make More Money with Budget 2015

(Note: You can take advantage of $500 Training Credit now, not 2016, details at here)

A quick summary of Singapore Budget 2015 as announced by Finance Minister on 23 Feb 15:
  1. High-income earners hit with higher taxes. Personal income tax top marginal rate to rise by 2% from 20-22% for top 5% of earners with chargeable income of $320,000 and above
  2. SkillsFuture $500 Credit for all Singaporeans aged 25 and above: each will get $500 credit in 2016 that can be used for all types of training. 
  3. GST Voucher will be increased by $50 for all. Seniors will get another $300 GST vouchers
  4. All individual income tax will be reduced by 50%, capped at $1,000 for each person
  5. Companies will enjoy income tax rebate of 30%, capped at $30,000
  6. Domestic maid levy will be halved to $60 from May 2015 for households with children aged 16 and below
  7. One-year 20% road tax rebate for cars and 100% tax rebate for commercial vehicles.  But petrol duty tax will increase by $0.15 to $0.20 per litre with effect 1 April 2015
  8. There will be a transport subsidy to cover at least half of students' transport costs.
  9. National examination fees to be waived for public institutions.
  10. Eligible seniors to get $300-$750 per quarter under Silver Support Scheme; seniors in smaller flats get more cash.
  11. All approved donations will enjoy higher income tax deduction of 300% (from current 250%)
  12. Wage Credit Scheme, where government pays companies 40% of the wage increase, will be extended to 2017 (at half the rate)
  13. Employers encouraged to hire workers beyond 65 via special employment credit worth 3% of wage on top of 8.5% wage offset
  14. Higher employer contribution rates effective Jan 2016.  
  • Cut-off salary for CPF contributions increased from current $5,000 to $6,000
  • CPF rate for those aged 50 to 55 and above to increase to the same as other workers
