Top 10 Mistaken Beliefs About WeChat

Although WeChat has 1.13 billion daily active users worldwide, there are still many wrong beliefs about WeChat.  For example, many still think that WeChat is only used by Chinese and WeChat is just another China version of WhatsApp. My friend even has this thinking that WeChat is just a social tool and you cannot use WeChat for business.  The top 10 misunderstandings about WeChat are:
  1. WeChat is just another WhatsApp, China version, because WhatApp is banned in China. Truth: WeChat is not just a messaging tool, it is also a tool for daily transactions like transport, entertainment, news, cashless payment, social media like Facebook, music sharing, e-book and daily broadcast tool
  2. WeChat only supports Chinese language.  In fact WeChat now has 21 languages and you can easily translate another language into your phone's language using the translate tool inside
  3. WeChat does not support external links.  Reality: You can use any external links everywhere in WeChat except in groupchats and message broadcast
  4. WeChat is a very closed tool and you cannot see anything about anyone unless they have added you as a friend on WeChat.  Truth: You can see a stranger's 10 photos in their Moments posts.  You can always search for someone and send them a friend request
  5. Only Chinese use WeChat.  Truth: Just go to Little India in Singapore and you'll see many non-Chinese there using WeChat
  6. WeChat Pay is not useful because you only can use Chinese Yuan (CNY) in WeChat Pay.  Truth: 3 currencies are supported in their respective countries: South African Rand, Malaysian Ringgit and Chinese Yuan
  7. Unlike Facebook, most people don't read your newsfeeds (called Moments) in WeChat. Truth: WeChat Moments is part of everyday life of a WeChat user.  You can always select whose Moments you want to see in WeChat
  8. WeChat is just a tool combining the features of WhatsApp and Facebook.  Truth: WeChat has over 1 million features, most of them residing in WeChat's Mini Program, which is just a mini mobile app.  WHATEVER YOU CAN THINK OF, WECHAT HAS IT IN A MINI PROGRAM
  9. Companies don't use WeChat.  Truth: Almost a million companies have WeChat Official Account, which is a mini website used by companies to conduct their entire business there
  10.
