5 Things That Will Change Forever After COVID-19 Lockdown

(Read the update at here)
Looking at what happened to China's Hebei province and Wuhan city now, there are 5 things in the world that will change forever when the COVID--19 lockdown is over:
  1. People get used to working and living online for everything: shopping, banking, groceries, tuition, training, seminars, office meetings, networking, social meeting and even dating. In future asking people to come out for your physical seminars,  meetings or events will be more difficult.  But the good news is that your reach is wider now as you can reach out to many people outside your country or territory via online. For example in my company, we used to conduct 4 physical seminars a week at our shop at Fu Lu Shou Complex. During the lockdown period, we hold almost daily online seminars via Zoom and Facebook Live.  Our audience now includes people from KL, Penang, East Malaysia, Taiwan and even New Zealand.
  2. Working from home is more common, with any companies slashing their office space and mandate non-essential jobs employees to work from home, like accounting and payroll processing. Office rental will come down definitely
  3. Job Positions continue to shrink because companies now realise that they can do more work with less staff. People with high salaries and performing not that high-level jobs will be having the biggest risk. New job entrants especially the fresh graduates will find it even harder to look for the right job and they have to make do with whatever temporary jobs they can lay their hands on.  Unemployment will be higher than in 2019 even when the economy recovers, say in October 2020
  4. Demand for taxis and grab will continue to decline and not go back to pre-Convid levels because people now realise that many things can be done online without physically coming out. The same goes for public and private transport.
  5. Old Habits die hard and still die. Once people see the economy improving, say by July 2020, they will start to spend like before, like going out for meals, travelling and entertainment.  But such old habits will also slowly die, as people now realise that health is more important than fun, so they will postpone leisure activities as much as possible, say to the year 2021.  During the lockdown period they derived so much fun from staying at home, they will need to find a bigger reason to go out and have fun. In short, we won't see a going back to pre-COVID levels in the travel, leisure and entertainment industries. Related articles:

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...

Kindness as a Way of Life: How Kindness can Reward You 6 Times Over

Kindness as a Way of Life by Andy Ng Kindness is a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries, enriches human connections, and has the power to transform lives. It goes beyond mere acts of charity or random good deeds. To me, kindness, when practiced as a way of life, becomes a profound philosophy that can shape our interactions with others, the world around us, and even our own well-being. In this article, we will explore the multifaceted aspects of kindness as a way of life, touching on non-violent communication, the limitations of traditional charity, the potential harms of helping, the deliberate cultivation of kindness, and the incredible rewards it brings. 1.       Non-Violent Communication Non-violent communication (NVC) is a key component of practicing kindness as a way of life. Developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, NVC emphasizes empathetic communication that seeks to understand and connect with others on a deeper level. It encourages ...
