Andy’s Super Movement: Bring Sinology to the WorldI was born on Trengganu Street in the heart of
Singapore’s Chinatown — a place alive with the echoes of Chinese operas, Getai
performances, pop music and Rediffusion broadcasts in Cantonese. Back then,
even the non-Chinese spoke Cantonese. Mandarin was foreign to me. English?
Nonexistent. I only started learning both when I entered Primary One.
As Singapore modernised, so did I. English became my
dominant language — the language of school, work, and success. But something
precious was buried beneath the noise of progress: my deep-rooted love for
Chinese culture — its wisdom, values, and soul.
Then came a turning point in 2017. I was in Hainan,
China, attending a multi-day spiritual training with over 400 participants from
China and Taiwan. By a stroke of fate, I was chosen through a lucky draw to be
one of just three people to speak from the heart on stage.
As I stepped forward, something stirred deep within
me. I spoke these words — words that shook the hall and drew thunderous
applause:
“In
Singapore, where Chinese make up 75% of the population, our cultural soul is
fading. We see families in courtrooms, airing private disputes on social media.
We see elderly parents neglected, harmony fractured. I am nearing 60. I want to
dedicate the rest of my life to bring back the essence of Chinese culture — not
just to Singapore, but to the world.
I declared
that with my bilingual skills and lifelong study of Chinese history,
literature, and philosophy, I would teach Sinology in a way that speaks to
today’s world — using modern tools, real-life stories, and accessible language:
English. Because those who need the wisdom of Sun Zi, Lao Zi, Zhuang Zi, Confucius,
and Yijing the most… are often those who cannot read Chinese.”
From that moment on, I never looked back.
Since then, I’ve authored a book on WeChat, and two
books on Yijing — all in English. I’ve spoken on countless stages, conducted
training sessions, and led corporate leaders, seekers, and professionals into
the timeless beauty of Chinese wisdom — reframed for a modern, global audience.
This is my SuperMe Movement. Not a return to the past,
but a rising of the soul — to awaken a future where East meets West,
where ancient wisdom meets modern purpose, and where culture becomes a bridge,
not a barrier.
I am Andy Ng. And I will continue
walking this path — until the world remembers what it once knew in its heart.
