Power of Your Mind as Explained by Yijing

The Power of Your Mind — As Explained by Yijing

In today’s AI-driven world, we are told that intelligence is everything. But what if your greatest power lies not in what you know, but in how you use your mind?

Ancient wisdom from the Yijing (I Ching) — the Book of Changes — shows us that true power does not come from force or intellect alone.

It comes from alignment, flow, and conscious choice. And that starts with the mind.

Let’s explore this through three practical lenses drawn from the Yijing and reinforced by powerful mental mastery principles.

1. You Are Not Your Mind

The mind is a powerful tool, but a poor master.

When left unchecked, your mind:
  • Thinks non-stop, often looping the same thoughts.
  • Obsesses over the past or worries about the future, rarely staying in the present moment.
  • Generates 70% negative thoughts on average.
Yijing teaches us through its ever-changing hexagrams that nothing is fixed.

If your mind is stuck in judgment, comparison, or drama, you are no longer flowing with the Dao — the Way.

Shift: From Mind-Controlled → Present-Aware

Instead of being consumed by your thoughts, become aware of them. See them like clouds passing through the sky, not your identity, just mental weather.

This is the path to Hexagram 24: Fu (Return): the return to your true self.

2. Let Go of the 3 Mind Traps: Judge, Compare, Drama

When your mind is disconnected from your heart, it:
  • Judges everything: good/bad, right/wrong.
  • Compares constantly: to others, to expectations, to the past.
  • Creates drama: overthinking, reacting, emotional storms.
This is the trap of imbalance, what Yijing calls “Li” — fire that flares without grounding.

But the moment you shift from judgment to acceptance, something magical happens:
  • You come back into balance (Yin and Yang).
  • You start operating from love, not fear.
  • You activate the Oneness and harmony that Hexagram 1 (Qian) and Hexagram 2 (Kun) represent — the creative and the receptive in perfect dance.

Key Principle: Accept What Is. Choose What’s Next.

3. Tools to Align Your Mind with Your Destiny
In the Yijing, everything evolves through intentional change. Similarly, the mind can be re-trained to create rather than destroy.

Here are power tools for mental mastery:
  • Affirmations: Speak with power. “I like myself.” “I am enough.”
  • Declarations: Own your truth. “I am ready.” “I will rise.”
  • Goals: Create intention. “This is what I choose.”
  • Faith + Expectation: “I believe something good will happen today.”
  • Self-esteem: Not ego — but a deep trust that “God wants me to be rich, healthy, and happy.”
From Hexagram 46: Sheng (Pushing Upward)

Your mind is the soil. Your words are seeds. What you expect, you water. What you believe, you receive.

Conclusion: Mind Power, Yijing Style

Yijing doesn’t just teach change.
It teaches us how to navigate change with consciousness.
And the first place to master is your mind.

Don’t let your mind drag you into fear, comparison, or past regrets.
Use it to align with your present, your power, and your purpose.

Speak life. Expect greatness. Accept what is, and lead from love.

Because in the end, it’s not your IQ that defines your destiny.

It’s your LQ — Love Intelligence, powered by the still, wise mind within.

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...

How I Became a Fortune Teller: Leveraging NLP, Fear and Greed, and Motivational Theories

Becoming a fortune teller wasn’t part of my childhood dreams. It started as an experiment, fueled by my curiosity about human behavior and the subtle forces that drive our decisions. Over time, what began as a study of psychology and human interaction evolved into an unexpected career—one where I use the tools of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), the primal drivers of fear and greed, and motivational theories to help people uncover their paths. The First Step: Understanding the Human Psyche I was always fascinated by why people do what they do. During my university years, I studied psychology, particularly the works of Abraham Maslow, B.F. Skinner, and Victor Vroom. Their theories provided insights into motivation, reinforcement, and decision-making. But I wanted to move beyond the academic realm and see how these theories worked in real life. Around this time, I discovered NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This framework for understanding communication and behavior is based on the...
