If AI Can Deliver Content, Why Do We Need You?

People ask me, “Andy, if AI can deliver content so quickly and so perfectly… what’s left for trainers like us to teach?”

My answer is very simple:

Content is not the reason people attend training.
People come for one thing: to be loved.

AI can teach information.
But only a human can teach transformation.
And transformation requires heart, connection, energy and presence.

After 29 years of training, I know this truth deeply:
People don’t learn from slides. They learn from the person.
Your conviction, your stories, your tone, your attention: these cannot be coded.

Let me explain this through the wisdom of Sinology.

Wang Yangming: “Heart is Principle.” 心即理

AI has knowledge but no heart.
Wang Yangming teaches that true learning happens when knowledge enters the heart and becomes action.
Only a living teacher can awaken that.
Only love can move someone to change.

Yijing: Harmony, Timing, Qi

Training is not just teaching concepts.
It is reading the room, sensing energy, adjusting in the moment, responding to unspoken needs.
AI cannot feel Qi.
AI cannot sense fear, confusion, or inspiration.

A human can.

Sun Tzu’s Art of War: Know Yourself, Know Others

AI can analyze behaviour, but it cannot understand human struggle.
It cannot feel courage rising inside a participant.
It cannot guide someone to “win without fighting” in their career or personal life.

A human teacher, with love and wisdom, can influence the heart behind the behaviour.

36 Stratagems: Flexibility and Human Nature

The Stratagems teach adaptability, subtlety, and emotional intelligence.
AI executes patterns; it cannot guide people through the nuances of interpersonal conflict, office politics, or leading with integrity.

A mentor can.

Three Kingdoms: Humanity moves history

The great leaders: Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhuge Liang, all led with ren (humanity).
They won not by power alone, but by loyalty, trust and emotional connection.

This is what training is:
transferring courage, values, meaning and human spirit.

So what’s left for us to teach?

Everything that matters.

We teach the courage to act.
We teach the confidence to grow.
We teach the wisdom to navigate life.
We teach the love that makes learning safe and change possible.

AI can deliver content.
But only we can deliver connection.
Only we can hold silence, soothe anxiety, ignite hope and encourage breakthroughs.
Only we can see someone’s potential and say, “I believe in you.”

That is why people come to training.
Not for information.
Not for slides.
Not for content.

They come to feel loved, understood and empowered.

And that, AI can never replace.

How I Became a Fortune Teller: Leveraging NLP, Fear and Greed, and Motivational Theories

Becoming a fortune teller wasn’t part of my childhood dreams. It started as an experiment, fueled by my curiosity about human behavior and the subtle forces that drive our decisions. Over time, what began as a study of psychology and human interaction evolved into an unexpected career—one where I use the tools of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), the primal drivers of fear and greed, and motivational theories to help people uncover their paths. The First Step: Understanding the Human Psyche I was always fascinated by why people do what they do. During my university years, I studied psychology, particularly the works of Abraham Maslow, B.F. Skinner, and Victor Vroom. Their theories provided insights into motivation, reinforcement, and decision-making. But I wanted to move beyond the academic realm and see how these theories worked in real life. Around this time, I discovered NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This framework for understanding communication and behavior is based on the...

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...
