Which Tea You Like: Ice Cold or Just Elegant Tea?

How Mixue and Chagee Each Used Yijing in Their Own Way

People often ask me why both Mixue and Chagee can grow so fast, yet their styles are completely different. The truth is, both brands follow the principles of Yijing, but they apply them in two very different ways. When you understand this, you see why they both succeed without needing to fight each other.

Everything begins with Oneness. Mixue positions itself as part of everyday life, almost like the air people breathe. Affordable, accessible, always there. Chagee, on the other hand, positions itself as part of a personal ritual, something people enjoy, appreciate and even show off. One becomes daily life, the other becomes lifestyle. Both are One with their audience, but in different layers of human living.

Then comes Yin and Yang. Mixue represents extreme Yin: simple, cool, friendly, low price, low barrier. Chagee represents rising Yang: premium, warm, beautiful, expressive. Yin attracts the masses, Yang attracts those who want refinement. When you see these two energies working, you realise they are not competitors. They are balancing each other in the larger beverage ecosystem.

Next, the Ba Gua or eight trigrams. Mixue expresses the trigram of Kan, the water element. Its stores are clean, minimal, straightforward. Just flow in, buy, and go. Chagee expresses Dui, the joyous lake, and Li, the fire of beauty and clarity. This creates a space where people don’t just buy a drink but enjoy an experience. Same industry, different trigrams, different Qi.

The 64 Hexagrams teach us that no success is permanent unless it keeps adapting. Mixue adapts by mastering scale, logistics and speed. Chagee adapts by elevating design, packaging and storytelling. One keeps changing through efficiency. The other keeps changing through elegance. Both move with change in different directions, and that is why both remain strong.

Now look at the Five Moving Elements (Wu Xing). Mixue’s energy is Earth and Water. It nourishes. It supports. It is dependable. Chagee’s energy is Wood and Fire. It grows. It inspires. It excites. In the cycle of the Five Elements, Water helps Wood grow. Wood feeds Fire. Fire creates Earth. When you place both brands on this cycle, you see harmony, not conflict.

Finally, it is all about Qi. Mixue’s Qi is grounded, stable and widely spread. It reaches deep into the community. Chagee’s Qi is refined, uplifting and contagious. It spreads upward into social media and culture. When Qi moves correctly, growth becomes natural.

So, Mixue and Chagee did not beat Starbucks or each other by fighting. They simply aligned themselves with different aspects of the Yijing. One followed the Dao of simplicity. The other followed the Dao of beauty. Both respected the larger ecosystem. That is why both grow without stepping on each other.

In the end, this is the real power of Yijing in business. You do not win by attacking your competitors. You win by aligning with your true nature and moving with the energy of the times.

How I Became a Fortune Teller: Leveraging NLP, Fear and Greed, and Motivational Theories

Becoming a fortune teller wasn’t part of my childhood dreams. It started as an experiment, fueled by my curiosity about human behavior and the subtle forces that drive our decisions. Over time, what began as a study of psychology and human interaction evolved into an unexpected career—one where I use the tools of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), the primal drivers of fear and greed, and motivational theories to help people uncover their paths. The First Step: Understanding the Human Psyche I was always fascinated by why people do what they do. During my university years, I studied psychology, particularly the works of Abraham Maslow, B.F. Skinner, and Victor Vroom. Their theories provided insights into motivation, reinforcement, and decision-making. But I wanted to move beyond the academic realm and see how these theories worked in real life. Around this time, I discovered NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This framework for understanding communication and behavior is based on the...

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...
