My Professor Taught Me this in 1985: Don't Focus on How People Say

 

In 1985, I attended the 1st lesson conducted by Professor Fong, School of Accountancy, National University of Singapore.  He asked the class, why you guys study accountancy?  Many said, "it is good money".  Some said it their interest. Others say is accountancy is a professional degree. 

Prof Fong asked, "What is a Professional?"  Many said it is good knowledge, good grades, disciplined etc.

"Until you can separate the emotion from the problem, you are not a professional" Prof Fong said.  

Ladies and gentlemen, don't focus on how people say something.  Focus on what they say.     

Until you can do this, you are not a professional.  Separate people from the problem. That is what being professional is about.
