What is Purpose and What is Not?

What is Purpose and What is Not?

If purpose is not your roles or titles, what is purpose?
How different is it from mission, vision and calling?
How can you know your purpose? By digging deep?
How can you live out your purpose and have a purposeful life?

These are profound questions—ones that many leaders, seekers, and souls quietly carry. Let’s break it down through the lens of SuperME and PLG (Purpose, Love, Gratitude).

🧭 What Is Purpose (And What It Is Not)?

Purpose is not your role, title, or job.

It’s not “I’m a manager,” “a parent,” or “a coach.”

Roles change. Titles expire. Companies close.

But Purpose remains—because it’s about who you are, not what you do.

Purpose is the deep why behind your being.

It’s the thread that runs through everything, even if the job or relationship shifts.

A role says: “I’m a teacher.”

Purpose says: “I awaken potential in others.”

A title says: “I’m a founder.”

Purpose says: “I build things that matter.”

A salesperson says: “I sell health equipment.”

Purpose says: “I bring health to people’s homes to help everyone live up to 100 years”.

Isn’t Purpose Inspiring?

🔍 How Is Purpose Different from Vision, Mission, and Calling?

Concept           Focus                                      Timeframe                   Energy

Purpose           Who you are here to be          Lifelong                       Grounding & anchoring

Vision              What you want to create         Long-term                    Inspiring

Mission            How you deliver value             Mid-term                      Motivating

Calling             What deeply pulls you             Shifts over time            Emotional & spiritual

Purpose is the root.

Vision, mission, and calling are the branches and fruit.

Without Purpose, the rest feel empty or disconnected.

🪞 How Do I Know My Purpose?

It’s already within you—but it’s often buried under fear, expectation, and noise.

 To uncover it:

·       Look back – What themes show up in your life repeatedly?

·       Listen in – What breaks your heart and lights your fire?

·       Ask deeper questions:

o   What matters to me beyond money?

o   Who do I become when I’m most alive?

o   What pain have I turned into wisdom?

And yes, digging deep is part of it. But you don’t find your purpose only in your mind.

You feel it in your body. You hear it in silence. You meet it in stillness.

In SuperME Unleashed, this is called the Super Mirror—an honest, loving look into your soul.

🌱 How Can I Live Out My Purpose?

Knowing your purpose is not enough.

Living it daily is the real work—and the real joy.

Here’s how:

1. Anchor Daily

Set intentions each morning based on who you want to be, not just what you want to do.

“Today, I bring clarity and calm into my team.”

“Today, I nurture instead of control.”

2. Use the PLG Compass

Let Purpose guide your direction, Love guide your relationships, and Gratitude guide your reflection.

3. Say No to Misalignment

If something doesn’t serve your purpose, let it go.

Even if it’s profitable. Even if it’s popular.

A purposeful life is not busy—it’s aligned.

4. Serve Beyond Self

Your purpose always involves others.

Ask: How does my life improve someone else’s?

Then build from there.

🌀 Final Thought

You don’t “create” your purpose.

You remember it.

You don’t have to chase it in the mountains or in success seminars.

It’s already in your heart, whispering through your joys, your wounds, your gifts.

When you live your Purpose with Love and Gratitude,

you no longer just exist—you radiate.

That is SuperME.

And that… is the beginning of a truly purposeful life.

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...

How I Became a Fortune Teller: Leveraging NLP, Fear and Greed, and Motivational Theories

Becoming a fortune teller wasn’t part of my childhood dreams. It started as an experiment, fueled by my curiosity about human behavior and the subtle forces that drive our decisions. Over time, what began as a study of psychology and human interaction evolved into an unexpected career—one where I use the tools of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), the primal drivers of fear and greed, and motivational theories to help people uncover their paths. The First Step: Understanding the Human Psyche I was always fascinated by why people do what they do. During my university years, I studied psychology, particularly the works of Abraham Maslow, B.F. Skinner, and Victor Vroom. Their theories provided insights into motivation, reinforcement, and decision-making. But I wanted to move beyond the academic realm and see how these theories worked in real life. Around this time, I discovered NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This framework for understanding communication and behavior is based on the...
