The 4 Immeasurables and You

Buddhism's Four Immeasurables and Love Intelligence (LQ)

1. Loving-Kindness (慈) → CARE

Buddhism: May all beings be happy.

LQ:

Care for people genuinely.

Examples: Listening attentively, Encouraging others, Being patient, Giving recognition

At work: A manager notices an employee struggling and asks:

"How are you coping?" rather than "Why are your numbers down?"

This is Care in action.

2. Compassion (悲) → CARE + COURAGE

Compassion is not pity.

Compassion says:

"I feel your suffering, and I want to help."

Many people have empathy.

Few have compassionate courage.

Example:

A leader notices burnout.

Low LQ:

"Everyone is stressed."

High LQ:

"Let's redesign the workload."

This requires courage.

This is why Love Intelligence goes beyond empathy. It includes action.

3. Appreciative Joy (喜) → CONNECTION

This may be the most neglected quality today.

Modern society teaches comparison.

Buddhism teaches celebration.

Instead of: Why him?

You say: Good for him.

Instead of: Why her promotion?

You say: Wonderful, she deserves it.

In LQ:

Connection grows when jealousy disappears.

This is why great leaders celebrate: staff success, partner success, customer success, without feeling diminished.

4. Equanimity (舍) → COURAGE

Many people misunderstand Equanimity.

It is not indifference.  It is inner stability.

The ability to remain grounded: during praise, criticism, profit and loss

This is deeply related to Courage.

Because courage without emotional stability becomes aggression.

Equanimity gives courage wisdom.

How This Relates to SuperME

Your SuperME idea is about becoming the highest version of yourself.

The Four Immeasurables describe what that highest version looks like.

A SuperME:

  • Loves Others (慈)
  • Sees goodness.
  • Helps Others (悲)
  • Acts when needed.
  • Celebrates Others (喜)
  • Has abundance mentality.
  • Remains Grounded (舍)
  • Cannot be easily shaken.

Buddhism asks: How can I cultivate a better heart?

SuperME asks: How can I become a better self?

Love Intelligence asks: How can I use that better self to create better relationships, leadership, and results?

The Four Pillars of Human Greatness

Care

  • Loving-Kindness
  • Compassion

Courage

  • Equanimity
  • Doing the right thing

Connection

  • Appreciative Joy
  • Celebrating others

Buddhism gives us the heart.

SuperME gives us the aspiration.

Love Intelligence gives us the application.

Together they help us become fully human in an AI world.

How I Became a Fortune Teller: Leveraging NLP, Fear and Greed, and Motivational Theories

Becoming a fortune teller wasn’t part of my childhood dreams. It started as an experiment, fueled by my curiosity about human behavior and the subtle forces that drive our decisions. Over time, what began as a study of psychology and human interaction evolved into an unexpected career—one where I use the tools of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), the primal drivers of fear and greed, and motivational theories to help people uncover their paths. The First Step: Understanding the Human Psyche I was always fascinated by why people do what they do. During my university years, I studied psychology, particularly the works of Abraham Maslow, B.F. Skinner, and Victor Vroom. Their theories provided insights into motivation, reinforcement, and decision-making. But I wanted to move beyond the academic realm and see how these theories worked in real life. Around this time, I discovered NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). This framework for understanding communication and behavior is based on the...

If Not You, Who Else?

I learnt this very powerful 5-word phrase from Singapore's highest ever box-office movie ever: "Ah Boys to Men II". In one scene, the recruits were about to start their 3-day field camp.  Their Officer-in-Command asked them, "Before we moved out, anybody not feeling well?"  All the soldiers replied loudly, "No Sir!!!" "Gentlemen", continued the Officer, "Every time the training gets tougher, one thought comes to your mind, 'Why Must I Serve National Service?' "My answer to you is, 'If Not You, Then Who Else?'" Wow!  What a powerful phrase!  If Not You, Who Else may mean: You are the most suitable person, and we can't find anyone better than you.  This is appreciation at the highest level How can you push this responsibility to someone else? I am making a request to you specifically, please don't reject my request Can you find me another person more suitable than you? Please refer me anot...
